BICYCLE SIDECAR SCRAPBOOK
Plans and Photos from American D.I.Y. Magazines: 1910 ~ 1974

Bike sidecars haven't been as popular lately as they once were, except maybe within kustom circles.  But in the past, they were of serious interest to the kind of do-it-yourselfers who subscribed to magazines such as Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, etc. They were especially popular in the very early 20th Century, when cars were relatively expensive, later during the Depression, then during WW2, when automotive fuel was rationed, and in the post-war period in Britain and many European countries, for the same reason. The plans we've selected are good for seeing the many ways of making sidecars, bodies, their chassis and linkages; and the photo clips show many of the styles which were popular at various times in 20th Century history. Enjoy!

Above: While not really a sidecar rig, but more a set of kiddy panniers, the writer called them sidecars, so we chose to include this. And also because it's an interesting idea,  of possible interest to modern DIYers.
