Michigan's biggest bike show is always full of surprises, and this year was no exception. Don and Deb VanCleave once again hosted the kustom bicycle exhibition at the world renowned Detroit "Autorama" car show, which is universally recognized as one of the great showcases for automotive creativity.

"Al Petri and Sons" provides bicycle builders with an ideal venue to exhibit their machines. Now in its 11th year, the Petri show continues to be the region's finest "all bicycle" showcase. Different judging classes ensure fairness; bikes compete according to style, quality and the number of modifications made. Similar bikes compete against similar bikes. There may also be a number of different classes within any particular style.
Anyone thinking about exhibiting their creations at a "Petri" bike show can be assured that their machines will be judged fairly against bikes similar to their own; and also against other participants who are similar in age and ability.
This year's show was a colorful array of both bikes and their display settings. Participants are encouraged to individualize their exhibition spaces for maximum visual impact and effect. Flowers, cardboard cut outs, mirrors, all enhanced the effect for the show-going public. What pleases the audience also pleases the show organizers.

All in all, you really cannot find a better place to either view or exhibit a kustom bicycle. "Al Petri and Sons " have had enough years of experience to make this bike show run smoothly and effectively. This exhibit is what I would call a main feature, and a prime example of how a kustom bike show can work well for everyone involved.

The ongoing success of the "Petri & sons" bike show indicates just how strong today's creative bike scene continues to be. We can expect endless years of creative peddling yet to come, and the Detroit Autorama will remain one of the best vantage points to view the continued growth (and adventure) that is "kustom cycling" .
